Integrating Alarms into Homes

If you feel unsafe in your own home thinking that danger is always lurking in the corner, then it is about time you consider a home overhaul. Renovate, improve, and redesign your home. As a part of your home improvement scheme, include home security in the plan. Nearly half of all the burglary incidents occur in residential properties. For this reason, home owners should look for ways to protect themselves, their families, and properties by installing home alarm systems. Among the common entry points of intruders are the windows, hence, it is really important to install window sensors in your home. The most ideal places to place sensors are not the second floor windows where access can only be gained through a ladder, nor the first floor or basement windows that are visible along the street or by a neighbour. It is, in fact, the ones located in unobservable areas such as the back of your house and those covered by bushes. You may place window switches that alert people upon opening of a window, install a motion sensor that can either be a passive infra-red sensor or a dual-technology sensor, or a glass-breaking sensor.

In addition to installing home alarm systems, you should observe vigilance. Keep openings like doors and windows locked. Supplement basic locks with chain locks and dead bolts. Secure sliding doors and windows by inserting a broomstick or dowel in the inside track. Allow someone to occupy and keep watch of the home. You may also suggest that someone is at home by setting timers to turn on radio and lights automatically. Make sure that your main doors are made of durable materials like metal or hardwood. Keep valuables inside a safe box and label them. Take their photos and keep an inventory of them. Consider caring for pet dogs to discourage burglars. Always trim your plants to conceal hidden prowlers. Home alarm systems are not very hard to install. However, it may be best to hire a specialist to do the installation for you. Have your home checked by experts to assess the likelihood of intrusion and to identify weak points. Sometimes, it takes another person to estimate your security needs. When transacting with third-party contractors, always verify their reliability and authenticity. Otherwise, you may end up giving potential burglars a free look at your home and time to plan their next operation.
